Low river level worries Kapit folk

Low Water at Kapit Wharf on 16th Oct

After the logs debris marched disaster’s now the people along Rajang River worries of the low level of Rajang River since the impounded of Bakun dam which started last Wednesday (13th Oct). Since the flooding began, the level of Rajang River dramatically dropped and caused the boat express services from Kapit to Belaga suspended since last Friday (16th Oct)
A resident that only wished to identified as Lau said,“If the current dry spell prevails, Kapit will soon experience dry taps and in the worst scenario, the rural folk from Kapit to Belaga or those residing below the Bakun Dam will be denied of their vital link — water transport,”

Beside the water became shallow, a traveler from Punan Bah, Nanga Merit sub-district, said once submerged rocks across the riverbed have now appeared as well as at the Pelagus Rapids, making boating extremely dangerous.

With the water transport became dangerous and not very favorable, what alternatives does Kapit/Belaga have?
The government should look into this matter seriously and expedite the construction of the road from Kanowit to Song and Kapit.
